Start With Why
This is where we really start to leverage all of that vision and clarity work we’ve done in previous courses. If you are not crystal clear on your business’s “why,” if you don’t yet have a vision statement that feels strong and meaningful to you, please either do those courses for the first time or go back and revisit them. This is the foundation we’re going to use for all of our marketing strategy from this point onward.
Going back to that vision statement, I want you to really clarify why you do what you do. I want you to identify what’s special or different about what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.
I want you to bring into focus your values. This is about working out the engine that drives your whole business and how we start creating a movement around your work—a community of people who share the same values as you.
From here, we start creating a very strong message in the market. This will naturally repel some people, which is a good thing as it will also attract the people you are best suited to serve.
If you haven’t watched the Simon Sinek video, now is the time! We need your business’s why leading the charge of your marketing.
Work Out Your Why
Ask yourself:
- Why are you doing what you’re doing?
- What values drive your business, and why do they matter?
- What is the passion you are bringing to this business, and why does it matter?
- Why do you choose the products and services you provide?
- Why are you the best person to serve your particular customer?
- Why do your current customers buy from you already?
- Why would new customers want to?
- Why are you the only—or the best—solution to your customers’ needs?
- Why are you unique and different from others in the market?
- Why does your business exist?
- Why should anyone care?
- What are your values?
- What are the things you care about most?
- And how are they showing up in your business?
